Computing for study purposes

One motivation of the CIP pools is to provide students with resources for smaller and sometimes larger scientific calculations and simulations as part of their studies. In practice this means: You can calculate on the client computers, but only on the computer in front of which you are sitting and only as long as you are sitting there. There are dedicated servers for CPU-intensive computing jobs.

  • ciphiidae: HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 compute-server with 20 cores (20 threads) and 128GB RAM
  • ciphiinae: HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 compute-server with 20 cores (40 threads) and 128GB RAM

In order to store data generated on the compute servers, additional storage is available directly on the compute servers in addition to home and data. You can find this under /raid/scratch/. Here you can create your own directory for your data (e.g. mkdir /raid/scratch/ab01cdef )
