The data directory

The data directory is only available to physics student. It offers more storage that you may need for your studies or a thesis. In contrast to the home directory, the data directory is not encrypted (nevertheless, only you have access to your data!) and can only be accessed from CIP-clients in the Physics Department. There is no fixed quota per user. However, no unnecessary data trash should accumulate here.

How can i find my data?

Assuming your username is ab01cdef, your data directory is stored in the following directory:

/cip/data/ab01cdef

Via the terminal you can either navigate directly via the path to your old CIP home or simply with cd $DATA. If you want to open a graphical file explorer, you can execute thunar $DATA in your terminal and a window will open in your data directory.
