Congratulations, Dr Jan Alexander Joziol!
Congratulations to Dr Jan Alexander Koziol from LEP! He defended very successfully his doctoral thesis entitled „Quantum lattice models with long-range interactions – quantum phase transitions and crystalline ground states“.
Jan Alexander Koziol focuses in his thesis on quantum phase transitions and crystalline phases of quantum lattice models with long-range interactions. Quantum lattice models with long-range interactions, i.e. matter-matter interactions which decay algebraically with the distance, are of importance for a diversity of physical platforms ranging from quantum materials in solid-state physics to analogue quantum simulators in quantum optics. In quantum-optical systems it is even possible to tune the
long-range character of the interaction. At the heart of the thesis is a newly developed optimization scheme based on unit cells.
This scheme makes it possible to determine translational invariant crystalline orders of ground states in lattice models with long-range interactions without truncating them.
